Abstract

Background and purpose: Achievments in estethic of full complete denture is based on the correct choice of six upper anterior teeth in terms of size , shape and color. Different extra oral indices like the distance between 2 zygomas , the distance between pupils , nose width , corners of the mouth are recomended to determine the correct size of the anterior teeth which they werent the same in diffrent studies .Due to racial differences we decided to evaluate the relation between the length and width of maxillary incisors according to the facial Measurable indices. Materials and Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional and randomized study on 100 samples. The size of the facial landmarks distances were measured including face height, distance between two zigomas arches and interalar width, mesiodistal width and crown height of each tooth. The data were entered and analyzed with SPSS version 16 software. Results: There is a significant relationship Between sex and mesiodistal width of maxillary central tooth. The sex difference between the two groups showed no significant relationship between maxillary central incisors (P = 0.518), zygomatic arch distance (P = 0.018) and nasal fins (P = 0.085).The mesiodistal width of the maxillary central incisors had a positive, significant and direct relationship with the distance between the two nasal fins and the two ziggomas arches.( P=0.007) and (P=0.022) It should be noted that there was no significant relationship between face height and crown height. (P=0.102) Conclusion: The mean facial and dental sizes vary across diffrent communities . But their averages and observed relative relationships can be partly used to predict and determine dental size. Key words: incisor width, incisor length, facial width, facial length, interalar width.
